Michael Gahnyam Gbeugvat Foundation (Michael GG Foundation) is a US-based and Cameroon-based nonprofit expanding equitable access to healthcare, information, social services and empowerment for persons with disabilities and other vulnerabilities.
Structural barriers — including limited health literacy, stigma, and inadequate service delivery — continue to exclude vulnerable groups from essential care. We address these gaps through public health expertise, community engagement, and inclusive strategies that build systems that are accessible, sustainable, and locally responsive.
Our Focus Areas:
- Disability Empowerment: Resources and opportunities for persons with disabilities to advocate for their rights and participate equally in society.
- Health Outreach: Consultations, laboratory testing, medication distribution, and health education delivered directly to underserved communities.

OUR NAME & OUR STORY
Michael Gahnyam Gbeugvat Foundation (Michael GG Foundation) was named in loving memory of Mr. Dinga, Michael Gahnyam Gbeungvat — the father of our Founder and CEO, Dr. Dinga, Jerome Nyhalah.
Mr. Dinga, Michael Gahnyam Gbeungvat was a man whose life embodied the values this
Foundation carries forward: dignity, resilience, and a quiet but unwavering
commitment to his community. When Dr. Dinga founded this organization, naming
it after his father was not a formality — it was a promise. A promise that his
father's name would be attached to work that matters, to science that serves
the forgotten, and to advocacy that gives voice to those who have been silenced
by poverty, disability, and systemic neglect.
The name 'Gbeungvat' is a traditional name rooted in the cultural heritage of our founder's home community in Baligham, Cameroon. Because Mr. Dinga, Michael Gahnyam Gbeungvat did not use the traditional spelling in his official documents, the correct spelling was confirmed after his passing through consultation with village elders — a process that reflects the deep respect our founder holds for his father's identity, his family's heritage, and the community from which the Foundation draws its purpose.
Every research paper we publish, every community we serve, and every life we touch carries his name — and with it, the memory of a man who believed that where you come from should never determine how far you can go.

Why Cameroon
Cameroon is a country of extraordinary resilience and heartbreaking health disparities. Over 300,000children die before their 5th birthday due preventable infectious diseases — while persons with disabilities face healthcare barriers three times higher than the general population.
Rural communities in the North West & South West Regions, including Bamenda, Buea, and surrounding villages, remain chronically underserved by both government health systems and international aid, leaving entire populations without access to diagnostics, vaccines, or trained health workers.
Michael GG Foundation chose Cameroon not despite these challenges, but because of them — because the communities most overlooked by the global health system deserve the most rigorous, compassionate, and sustained attention that science and advocacy can provide.

Michael GG Foundation is an official collaborator of the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon, has signed Memoranda of Understanding with the University of Buea and the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, Atlanta, GA -- formalizing partnerships that advance research, training, and health inclusion for persons with disabilities and vulnerabilities in Cameroon and globally.
